Automotive

MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) have various customizations specific to the automotive industry and track a lot of important data. These systems are used to optimize, monitor and control production processes. The customizations of MES systems in the automotive industry and the data they track can be summarized as follows:

Automotive Industry Specific Customizations

Just in Time (JIT) and Kanban Integration:
- Supports and optimizes JIT and Kanban processes. Ensures that parts are delivered to the production line at the right time and in the right quantity.

Serial Number and Part Tracking:
- Tracks the serial numbers of each tool and component. This facilitates product traceability and recall processes.

Production Sequencing and Configuration Management:
- Manages customized configurations of each vehicle on the production line according to customer order. It organizes the production sequence between different models and variants.

Quality Control and Testing Integration:
- Integrates quality control and testing processes in the production process. It ensures that each vehicle passes through quality control points and is tested.

Traceability and Feedback:
- Ensures traceability of parts and components. It keeps track of which parts and components are used in which vehicles and provides fast feedback in case of potential quality problems.

Just in Time (JIT) production system, translated into Turkish as "just-in-time production", is a production philosophy that aims to produce a product with the desired characteristics at the desired time and in the desired quantity. This system aims to create continuous flow by attracting and leveling customer demand and to produce on a Takt Time (tool time) basis. Takt Time determines the production speed required to meet customer demand.

One of the two pillars of the House of Toyota, JIT is a system that aims to make problems visible, just like the other pillar, Jidoka. JIT was chosen by Kiichiro Toyoda in the 1930s to differentiate himself from the American automotive industry. This production system is a prerequisite for working without stock, which reduces inventory costs and makes production processes more efficient.

In the implementation of JIT, the assembly operator receives parts and components from the container without having to select them, completes the operation and selects the next part in the supply queue for assembly. This system is particularly common in the automotive industry. In the automotive industry, it is common for each car to have different specifications due to the large variety of options. Therefore, the types of parts used in assembly need to match the main product (the car). For example, the color of a car door should match the color of the rest of the car. If the doors are supplied in the right order, the worker simply needs to assemble the right door without having to make any choices.

This system makes it possible to reduce waste and respond quickly and flexibly to customer demands, while increasing efficiency in the production process. This ensures that high quality products are produced on time and in the required quantity.

Function of Customized MES Systems in the Automotive Industry
  • Reduce the amount of errors related to digital poka yoke to 0
  • Mold / raw material / auxiliary equipment - work order / reference matching reduces maintenance costs by 20%, reduces downtime due to incorrect molds by 100%.
  • With image prosses integration, the number of defective products going to the customer decreases to 0.
  • Production planning times are shortened by 55% with GANNT
  • The amount of intermediate stock is reduced by 30% with route information in the workflow.
  • semi-finished product stock is reduced to 0.
  • Incorrect shipment rate is reduced by 100% with JIT/JIS integration
  • With Internal Logistics management (Forklift), case full stoppage is improved by 72%.
  • With the Internal Logistics management (Forklift), stops caused by material waiting are improved by 45%.
  • When production exceeds the planned amount, machine stop or emergency warning systems are activated to prevent excess raw material consumption.
  • It reduces the cost of semi-finished product/stock storage to 0 for customers working with JIS.
  • With JIT, 100% gain is achieved in the time spent in downloading the order to the field.
  • With JIS, the time to find the right part in assembly processes is reduced by 100% with sequential product shipment.
